Netflix and Chill

I have to admit that I'm a total Netflix junkie. I rarely have the time, patience or energy to watch a full movie but I can conveniently binge watch old episodes of Gilmore Girls on Netflix, while whipping up dinner for the family or folding laundry. Win- Win situation!

I decided to list some of my favorite shows, as I'm always on the look for new series to get addicted to watch while I multitask. What are your favorites and have you watched any of the following?

Designated Survivor
A political action drama about a low level cabinet member who becomes President after an attack on the Capitol kills everyone above him  in the Presidential line of succession.

The show reminds me of the 24H series, with a little less action, more drama and politics. Desperately waiting for season 2 to start!

A conspiracy thriller that follows the journey of Bob Lee Swagger, a highly-decorated veteran who is coaxed back into action to prevent a plot to kill the President.

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Ryan Philippe in camo gear? Nothing else to say really.

13 Reasons Why
Follows teenager Clay Jensen, in his quest to uncover the story behind his classmate and crush, Hannah, and her decision to end her life.

I might just be slightly too old to fully relate with most of the issues presented in the show, but it definitely sparks up conversation. Every episode is a total cliffhanger so prepare to binge watch.

A bipolar CIA operative becomes convinced a prisoner of war has been turned by al-Qaeda and is planning to carry out a terrorist attack on American soil.

Im only a few episodes in to the first season, but so far it seems promising. I'm curios to see how it all ends.

Gilmore Girls
A dramedy centering around the relationship between a thirtysomething single mother and her teen daughter living in Stars Hollow, Connecticut.

I started watching GG from season 1, during my house chores. Love this easy going comedy drama and I'm excited to see who Lorelai ends up with!

American Crime story: The people vs. OJ Simpson
This limited series brings viewers inside one of the most prolific American court cases of the 20th century -- the O.J. Simpson murder trial -- from the lawyers' viewpoint.

Interesting documentary about one of historys biggest court cases in the US. I was pleasantly  suprised with the row of actors like David Schwimmer. Also a must watch for any Kardashian fan.

A chronicled look at the criminal exploits of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, as well as the many other drug dealers who plagued the country through the years.

Very interesting show about drug cartels and corruption in Colombia. For anyone not 'familiar' with the dephts of corruption it can be very eye opening. If you liked this you will also like the movies (1 and 2 ) Elite Squad, also starring brazilian actor Wagner Moura.

A Kansas family relocates to Beverly Hills, where their two children adapt to the infamous social drama of West Beverly Hills High.

Totally not for my age group, but so fun to watch. I actually watched this series occasionally years ago on tv and decided to watch the whole series when I found it on Netflix.

As mad as a Penguin

I'm just a little late to the party, but April 25th was World Penguin Day, So I thought what better way to celebrate, than with gelato and a slice of cake. Well, the warm memories of having some at Mad Penguin.

It was a rainy Monday in Aberdeen, when we decided to check out Mad Penguin with my family and sister who was visiting. When I first read about the vegan ice creams that Mad Penguin offers, I thought that it was a place I had to take my sister to. She can very rarely treat herself to ice cream, as she is milk and soy intolerant. According to her, milk free ice cream is usually made with soy milk and sorbets have milk protein added to them. At Mad Penguin the vegan gelato didn't have any kind of milk in it.

Our party of three and a half had two tubs of Ice cream. We tried the vegan Orange&Earl Grey and a regular Strawberry cheesecake. My husband had a Mocha and a slice of peanut butter-chocolate cake.

This usually never happens, but everything was A-mazing!
I was super curious to try the vegan ice cream, and I couldn't believe how creamy yet fresh it tasted. I would have thought that milk free ice cream would be rather watery, but this definitely was not the case.

The PB cake was divine, moist and just full of flavour all around. I will definitely go back for more. Also the Strawberry cheesecake ice cream was really really good and not too sweet as they sometimes tend to be! I'm always reluctant to pick any strawberry flavour as I had a slight overdose situation when I had three of my wisdom teeth removed at once. In fact, this was the fist time I've had Strawberry cheesecake ice cream since 2013. Haha!

The Mocha was apparently the best my husband has ever had in our three years in Aberdeen. And that is a huge compliment from an ex barista!

I loved the modern and a bit industrial feel of the Cafe. The service was exceptional, and we were given little spoonfuls of Ice cream to try before making our decision. All around this place is the perfect location for a catch up with coffee or lunch! Once the Marishal Square is finished it will be the best people watching place, too.

This little hidden gem deserves 5/5 stars and an extra mention for the blingy toilet and how good photos turn out due to the big windows. So go ahead my Insta addicts, this is the place to go to!

recipe: Salmon Quinoa Bowl

This has probably been the busiest year so far. With juggling home, work, family and exercise there hasn't been much time left to blog. Never the less I'm full of inspiration and ideas. While the blog started off somewhat as a 'parent blog', I have decided not to continue in that niche. I originally created my blog to be a hobby for myself, way from the kid/baby stuff I deal with on a daily basis. I'm not exempting myself from it, but the focus will definitely be more on beauty, well being, recipes and lifestyle. we'll see where it goes. But enough with the chit chat:

I've wanted to post this recipe for ages now. It's a firm family favorite of ours and it's really easy to make. I love to eat this after a weekend of not so healthy choices and its a great lunchbox meal, as you can enjoy it hot or cold.

You need:

400g fresh salmon
2-3 bell peppers (I used a green, yellow and red one)
1 medium onion
2cups quinoa (unboiled)
1-2 tbs coconut oil
fresh ground pepper
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 Avocado (optional)

Dice the salmon and let it marinate in soy sauce. Prepare the quinoa according to the instructions on the package.

Chop the peppers and onion. Fry the diced onions in a little coconut oil until they begin to get soft. Add Salmon (with soy sauce) and stir occasionally, Add diced peppers. When the salmon is fully cooked turn off heat.

Mix salmon-pepper mixture with the quinoa in a large bowl or saucepan. Add a hint of ground pepper and a tbs coconut oil and gently mix with a large spoon. Serve with diced avocados on top.

Tempo Aberdeen

Lovely Karen from Tinybirdheart had set up our blog meet at Tempo in Bon Accord, Aberdeen.

The concept of the cafe is simple: You pay for the time you spend and everything else is for free. when entering the cafe you will be asked to "sign in" and payment will be made once you leave. Probably one of the best things about the cafe is, that all proceeds go directly to CLAN.

It's almost like being in someone elses kitchen as you serve yourself. Tempo offers cereals of all kinds, fresh fruits, bread, bagels and sweet pastries to name a few. You can also help yourself to tea, coffee and other hot drinks as well as juices. When you finish eating&drinking you just place your cups and plates into the dishwasher.

Tempo is one of the few cafes in Aberdeen with an actual play area for children. There are several tables around the play corner, so its easy to sip on your cuppa and watch your kids play at the same time. If you rather not have children next to you, dont worry! The space is big, so you'll easily find seating away from the noise. The decor is light and modern throughout and you have plenty of space for high chairs and buggies, which again so many other places don't have.

Free WiFi and sockets to charge your phone are provided too!
Tempo is conveniently situated on the lower floor right across the Disney shop.

Have you already visited Tempo or any other charity run Cafes or restaurants?

Beach Bums

We love trips to the beach with the family. Even if its never really beach weather over here in Scotland. We still go in our windproofs. Sometimes Wellies. Pack some sandwhiches or stop at the chipper on our way back.

In our holidays we spend hours at the beach. We drink coconut water, eat crepes, tapioca and acaĆ for lunch. Treat the kids to ice cream, Buy freshly roasted cashew nuts. I cant think of any better way to spend a sunny day.

I can't wait too book our next beach holiday!

When Giraffe's offered the ABZ bloggers a chance to try their new spring menu I jumped at the opportunity! I had only been to Giraffe's once before, in fact, it was the first restaurant, that G ever had his own kids meal!

As expected, the service was friendly and relatively quick, considering we were almost 20 people.

We were given the option to choose a cocktail (or mocktail), starter or dessert and a main. As I have a total sweet tooth, I of course opted to skip the starter and chose a dessert instead.

My chosen drink was a 'Bramble Garden', which was a refreshing cocktail with berries, elderflower and gin. Perfect for summer and not too sweet either.

For my main dish I ordered the Scandi Salmon, which was a mixture of poached salmon, new potatoes, fresh salad and dill. It was light yet filling and reminded me of the Finnish summer. (Because 90% of the summer we only eat new potatoes with dill and fish haha!)

For dessert I chose the white chocolate cheesecake with passion fruit. I’m usually not the biggest cheesecake fan, but I found this super delicious. It wasn't too heavy or sweet and the combination with passion fruit was spot on.

All in all, I had yet another great experience at Giraffe's. Next time I would probably go for a different main course just to mix it up a little. The Chicken Milanese was a big success among our group as was the Bowl for the Soul.

Have you tried their new spring menu and if so, how did you like it?

Back in business

Ever since we came back from our holidays, I've meant to update the blog. What kept me from it was exhaustion and technical problems after having my pc formatted.

We left Northeast Brazil at 3 am on saturday and spent the whole day in Sao Paulo, to take our connection to Paris in the evening. That was a total of two nights with nearly no sleep at all. Anyone who knows me, knows that I NEED my sleep! Lol

All in all we had a great vacay and we enjoyed our time! G had a lot of fun with his cousins and we managed to get some child free time (we went to eat sushi like 7 times!) thanks to the grandparents!

Here's some snaps for you guys to enjoy! I already miss the warmth and sun, especially with this crazy weather that we are experiencing here in Aberdeen!
